Iota Omicron Lambda History

There is something to be said for tenacity. And if we are to succeed, then tenacity is something we can ill afford to be without! The Seven Jewels proved to the world that determination, planning, teamwork, and superior execution of a plan would overcome adversity and equal success. Ten men with tenacious resolve saw a future for our organization in the Pikes Peak Region. Therefore, on December 22, 1969, Alpha Phi Alpha - Iota Omicron Lambda Chapter was established, and in January 1970 received official recognition as a chapter. As an organization of professional men, we have encouraged others to succeed. We have lead, as well as supported, community accomplishments in the Pikes Peak Region.

Quality leadership starts with quality individuals who have chosen to take the steps necessary to climb that ladder we call success. Leaders such as our founders: Alton S. Arnold, Clinton Austen, Thomas J. Connage, Med D. Cullins, Danny P. Davis, Robert Dews, Melvin C. Hall, Bobby E. Lewis, Phillip L. Mallory, and Sylvester L. Shannon. These leaders shared a vision that we continue to benefit from today. To be an Alpha Man means a continuation of adherence to a code of values, dedication, self-discipline and honor. It is because of determination, willingness to succeed, and efforts to venture forward to help build a stronger community by educating and mentoring our youth, that we have been so successful in our endeavors all these years.
