Special Projects

MLKThe Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial will be the first to honor an African American in the National Mall area, and King will be the second non-President to be commemorated in such a way. On December 4, 2000, Alpha Phi Alpha laid a marble and bronze plaque to dedicate the 4-acre memorial site that borders the Tidal Basin and within the sightline of the Jefferson Memorial and Lincoln Memorial. The Groundbreaking Ceremonial took place November 13, 2006. The fraternity's goal by and large is to dedicate the memorial in 2008 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of King's death.
